This type of defense, breast and back plate with faulds and tassetts on the breast plate became common in the second half of the 15th century ( there are many examples from the Rhodes collection) and into the 16th century. The breast plate is of slightly pot bellied form, with a medial ridge and all parts are made from 16 gauge steel. Hand shaped and planished, edges are rolled and counter sunk or beveled where appropriate. Comes fully strapped and gussettes can be added ( the example pictured is shown with the gussette option) if desired. We can also build the breast plate as a stand alone item with appropriate strapping to wear as such ( please feel free to contact us if you are interested). Also avaliable as an option are three piece tassets based on a set in the military museum in Paris from a composed armour made up of pieces from Rhodes( provided for us by our customer Rahpael Nicolle) that are suitable for late 15th and 16th century use. MADE IN THE USA.
These can be made in steel finish ( steel rivets and buckles rather than brass) at no extra charge, just specify when ordering. Also avaliable with roped borders, and a stright neckline that came into fashion in the 16th century.
