Period Horseman's Axe

Mid to late 16th century. The inclination of the axe head forward tells us it was for mounted use (the incline of the head facilitates the transmission of force in a deep downward swing from horseback). Long backspike for piercing. Many parrying marks. This piece came with a badly restored/replaced handle which we removed.
