c.1500-1510 Elbow Cop

This early 16th century elbow cop is from a three piece arm harness that would have ariculated on leathers. It has several 19th century patches on the inside to stablize th delamination that was occuring. During the period scraps of steel plate were forge welded together to make new plates. Over the centuries sometimes these welds could weaken and give, causing pieces to break out which is called delamination. Despite this the piece retains its strong shape.
