17th Century Zischagge

This helmet know as a zischagge, a corruption of the Turkish word cicak for a Turkish type helmet copied by Europeans is some what unusual in that it has some very turk features. The pointed bowl with finel and the shape of the cheek plates being often seen on turk helms though this helmet is definitely European. The bowl was forged in two halves and then forge welded together. Inside the leather strips to which the liner was sewn are still present(though very brittle). This helm was painted with a thick dark green paint probably during the Victorian era to retard rusting.
