Horseman's Axe 16th Century

This outstanding piece is a true demonstration of what could be accomplished by hand maunfacturing. This highly detailed pieces consists of a hardwood shaft sheathed completely in four plates of steel flush riveted through with steel collars at the top and bottom of the handle. There is a belt hook the runs through the eye and shaft and is flush riveted through a sheild shaped plate on the other side with heraldric devices. The chiseled roping on the lower handle ring is worn on the left side from rubbing against the leg when hanging. The handle is waisted at the point where the webbing between thumb and forefinger have rubbed during use . An truely fabulous piece of workmanship.
